I have a recently purchased an 09 navara and have just completed a trip towing my 16 foot off road caravan,my previous vehicle a d22 nav with a 3ltr returned 8ks per ltr sitting on 90 and even better slow or off road, this 2.5ltr returned 5 to 6 ks per ltr at the same speed and around 7 sitting on 80kph. I am thinking of chipping the 2.5 ltr anyone out there fitted a chip and was fuel economy improved.

Hi , I had my Patrol at Ray Miller's Turbo Engineering last year and would definitely go back to him as my 3L Patrol is more economical with more power towing a van or normal driving than before it was chipped . I found him to be very obliging and really put himself out to come in at 6am sat morning to finish the Patrol as he knew that I was leaving on the Burke & Wills 150 year anniversary trip to the Gulf . It just goes to show the contrast between people . I cannot speak too highly of Ray , his wife , or the service that I received at his company .

well buy a lotto ticket and if you want to buy one of his computer chips cheap send me a message it has been doing its best work, sitting on a shelf in my garage.he is a roge with to deal with.and until he reply's to my complaint[witch i documented in writing to his office]and because it is not cost effective to myself to keep returning car to about 4 hours wasted time and my business cost run at $120 an hour i will keep letting people know about him ,it the beauty of the Internet i ofered him to buy back in chip at 50% and was willing to let it go

I have a 2008 D40 auto and was averaging around 14 Ltr/100km.....I decided to go with a low tech attempt at improving this in the first instance and fitted an EGR blanking plate. Fuel consumption in the 3000km since fitting has dropped to 12.5 - will it stay here? Bu$$ered if I know but so far so good.

You could make one of these yourself but I chose to buy a ready made one that had been laser cut to fit exactly. You will find more info here.

G'day Robert W,
I have a 2010 D40 2.5 auto d/cab and have just returned from 4000km trip towing 2.8 t van.
For most of the trip, I towed in 4th at 85-90 kph and got around 20 L/100km. When I hunted it up to 100 kph, it drank 22L/100km.
Interestingly, on way home, on dead flat highway (no wind) I decided to let it see how it liked overdrive for a while. Revs dropped to 1900, happily cruised at 90-100km and used around 17L/100km.
The vehicle has a Steinbauer chip installed, no other mods other than OME suspension.
Without the van on a trip in overdrive at 110 kph usually get about 11.5 L/100km.
I have been happy with the vehicle, it's towing habits and fortunately have had no dramas in the first 25000 kms.
Cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian - I would be keen to understand why you towed in 4th. Reason I ask is that the auto in the D40 will only lock the torque convertor in certain circumstances and one of these is that the selector is in D and the OD selected (ie the light is out). This is the most economical running for this vehicle. If you have time you might like to read more on this at the Navara D40 Forum...search for posts by OldTony and you will get a very detailed explanation of how this works.
Cheers
Pete
